Are you afraid to step into your light?

Are you afraid to step into your light?

If you know what you want to be known for, why aren’t you out there doing it yet?

Are you afraid of what others may think?

Or what might happen when you release your ideas to the world?

Perhaps there’s a fear of being criticised, or ridiculed.
Fear of falling flat on your face.
Fear that you don’t have the right credentials, the right experience, the right mana to call yourself a leader.
Fear of being labelled.
Fear of not having the right label.

Fear of being seen.

You wonder, ‘Who am I to call myself a leader? To take the stage, to speak and write and share my ideas? To think that I could inspire others?

To borrow a phrase from Marianne Williamson, ‘Who are you not to do so?’

Do you really think a time will come when you’ll be ready for this? Some mythical perfect day when your ideas will be fully formed, your work perfectly polished, when you finally feel qualified to pick up the mic…

If only it were that easy.

Creativity doesn’t come with guarantees.

No one knows how their work will be received. Everyone doubts the originality and the worth of their ideas.

You are not defined by where you have been. The labels you’ve worn, the job titles you’ve held, simply form part of your knowledge and wisdom, part of this body of work you are creating over a lifetime.

You get to decide where this body of work will take you next.

If you want to create anything that is brave and real and true, you have to find courage. Courage to bring your ideas into the light, to fill them with oxygen and allow them to breathe and grow.

Just like everyone else, you are on a journey. The way you do things now is not the same as it was a year ago, or will be a year from now.

So own your place on the road and invite your audience to travel alongside you. Allow yourself to be imperfect, to get things wrong, to make mistakes, to not have it all figured out, to expand into your dreams. To create something worth sharing

So go now, find a thread of something you care about, something worth saying, worth exploring, worth being known for. And then go say it.

It’s truly that simple.
